Les premiers Mac Pro sont des machines increvables et bien que ces produits soient sortis il y a plus de 7 ans, nombre d'entre elles continuent à fonctionner comme des horloges pour le plus grand plaisir de leurs propriétaires.
Elles ont toutefois un gros défaut qui n'était pas visible au moment de leur commercialisation. Bien que dotées de Xeon 64 bits, elles n'avaient qu'un EFI 32 bits. Cela a posé bien des problèmes à leurs propriétaires pour les faire évoluer, que ce soit au niveau de leur carte graphique ou celui de l'OS.
Ainsi, il est aujourd'hui impossible de leur installer Mavericks sans bidouilles assez complexes. Un membre des forums de Macrumors appelé Tiamo a toutefois grandement facilité les choses en proposant une nouvelle version du fichier boot.efi (et son code source) permettant de supporter Mavericks.
Il a en fait réussi à créer un fichier capable d'intercepter les requêtes 64 bits et de les traiter en 32 bits (en résumé). Tout fonctionne, y compris la veille profonde et Filevault 2.

I also had a look inside the boot.efi file immediately after downloading it. of course, after seeing references to DOS/Windows I had my doubts about it. but since I own several machines to play around with, I thought to myself: hey, give it a try, what can possibly go wrong... and it's working beautifully. the fact that "tiamo" released the source code is very comforting, too. I don't think that there's anything fishy about this new boot.efi. I tried a lot of methods to get Mavericks (or Mountain Lion) up and running on the old MacPros and all known methods had some downsides. not this one! at least, I couldn't find any. like if it was released by Apple themselves: it just works.

Hi Mike. I have a Mavericks install on my Mac Pro 1.1 (via Chameleon). Booted from Lion, the finder won't let me replace boot.efi in CoreServices. It says that some data cannot be modified (error code -36). The file is locked. How do I get around it? Thanks for your help.

(chez moi je ne peux pas remplacer le fichier, j'ai pas les autorisations. Des idées ?

EDIT: OK I managed via terminal following the instruction here: http://netkas.org/?p=189
BTW, the link shows how to use another boot file (with a different name) without replacing the old one. If it could be done here, it may be safer and more resilient to software updates.
